Executor

« Back to Glossary Index

a person who is appointed to carry out the instructions outlined in a testator’s will after their death. The executor’s responsibilities typically include managing the deceased’s assets, paying off any debts or taxes owed, and distributing the remaining assets to the designated beneficiaries according to the terms of the will. In some cases, the executor may also be responsible for overseeing the valuation and division of the assets among the beneficiaries, as well as ensuring that the testator’s wishes are fulfilled. In some legal systems, a judge may be involved in appointing the executor if the testator did not name one in their will or if there are disputes among the beneficiaries.
